The Running Club

For anyone thinking of Running any Marathons or just even for fitness or extending your social life (can be done ) please contact Pat on 087-2361192 , for all times of runs and routes. Remember most of the runners started by walking or being dragged . Being a Crusader is easier then you think !!

The Running Club starts training from the first Tuesday in March, although there are many runners out training beforehand for events like the Paris Marathon. All runs start out from Darcy's Corner Car Park on Carmody Street, Ennis. The training schedule is outlined below:

Activity

Day

Time

10k run

Tuesdays

0630

10k run

Thursdays

0630

Long run (10k - 40k)

Saturdays

0800

The distance of the long runs is increased gradually, in line with bringing it up to 40k a few weeks before the Dublin City marathon (October bank holiday weekend). The routes can generally be shortened for those looking to leave early.

While the main focus of the running is the Dublin city marathon, runners are welcome to join us who aim to do the Clare 10 km or a half marathon - all are welcome. Smaller groups of runners emerge from the large group who train at times to suit themselves, e.g. Tues/Thurs pm.

Group sessions of pilates, core training and yoga are also organised depending on the level of interest. There are also a number of social nights during the training season. The running club has members who regularly walk the marathon to those who run it in under 3 hours, so a wide cross section is catered for.

Press

Every year the Clare Crusaders run in the Adidas Dublin marathon. It is not an easy feat. A 'diary of the day' was published in a local paper named 'The Clare People' shortly after the 2005 race. It gives you a good idea of what the day was like.
